Fighting for the effective use of your time
Time isn’t like money. You never get it back.
It’s not easy sometimes I know, but fight for the effective and fulfilling use of your time.
Tell your manager that the meeting isn’t efficient for you to sit in
Advise your client that this work isn’t the best use of you or your organisation’s capabilities (of course be helpful and suggest an alternative)
Be brave and share with a friend what you do and don’t want to do anymore (you never know, they might feel the same)
Review and reflect on where you apply your thoughts and thinking each day - are you dwelling on problems or solving them?
Honestly evaluate the time you spend on social media - which updates or posts you’re continually consuming and are they the best for you?
Be intentional with what you want to do with the spare time in your week. Remember we all have 168 hours each week - what do you have left when you take out sleep, work, eating, and chores?
Use your best mental energy for the things that matter the most (for me this time of day is the morning)
Only you are in charge of your time. It’s never going to be perfectly optimised, but if you feel it’s currently disappearing without much thought, it’s only you that can fight for its effective use and make the changes.
I write this as a reminder to myself. I am a big fan of being intentional in all areas of life and constantly need reminding to do so.
Anything that you want to make the intention to be more intentional about?
